woah!! ur dads ganna give you 2 grand for rifles? how much do you have and heres anouther option get a gunsmith to build u a gun on a mauser action it can be done for around 1000$ or less depends on what rout u go if your just wanting a hunting rifle i suggest a mauser 98 action a adams and bennet barrel. in the caliber you want. a synthetic stock or wood which ever you prefer. a 3x9 power scope (or you could get any sight option you want on the gunsmith rout.) it should cost you about 4-600$ for parts and about 400$(what my smith charges to put anouther barrel on and drill and tap for a scope) for labor and have him finish it with duracoat its the most rust prevention firearm finish available then lets see uhm if u can do this for 1000$ then i know u have anouther 1000$ for a benelli shotgun if you like :)

You talk about 'getting used to it'

You don't get used to a heavy recoiling gun by shooting it more, that is how flinches are developed. You get used to a heavy recoiling gun by firing something that is less recoiling a lot.

While the 300 winmag and it's short action twin the 300 WSM are both fine catridges, I'd seriously consider getting something a bit smaller. I'd suggest a 35 whelen if you are going to be hunting moose at a relatively short range. Just like your 270 is a 30-06 necked down to take a .277 bullet, the 35 whelen is a 30-06 necked up to take a .358 bullet. Alternatively, I suggest the 7mm remington magnum. It is a sizable step up from the 270 in power and in kick, but not nearly the kick of a 300 winmag or 300 WSM
