Night time Texas coyote hunt – predator hunting rules!
smallblockfuelie asked:
My brother shot these two coyotes in TX at night with the aid of a spot light. It's hard to tell from the video, but there is a red lens on the spot light. He is shooting a 204 Ruger and using hand loads with 35 grain Berger HP's.

The red light (which you can’t see in the video) doesn’t bother them as badly as a white light. Plus you want to hold the light high or low so the brightest part of the light isn’t directly on them.

If you shoot them a long ways off it can be a huge pain trying to find them. With two guys hunting you just have the lighter keep their eyes on the downed animal. As you walk out to get it they can guide you to the animal.

So they dont care if you shine them. The coyotes dont get scared away by the light?

Finding yotes after u shot them is impossible u have 2 kill them right there

He was shooting a 204 with 35 grain Bergers.

what kind of gun is that a 223?
July 16th, 2009 at 8:07 am
If it wasnt so cold id go out right now!! I have mick lacey and olt calls plus “the attractor” electronic.

Yes, Sceery hand calls were used to bring them in and a little lip squeak to bring them in close. There is a red lens on the light but the “Nightshot Plus” feature on the Sony cam makes it appear white.
July 20th, 2009 at 5:28 pm
looked like right between the eyes!! nicely done! Did you use a rabbit squeal to call them up? Did you have red film over the spotlight?? awesome vid!
July 21st, 2009 at 1:34 am
Correct, that is a lip squeak. You can do it on the back of your hand or just by making a kissing sound.
July 22nd, 2009 at 6:43 pm
What kind of call is that? Sounds like your hand.
July 24th, 2009 at 10:45 am
Thanks!

Are you really suggesting that a coyote is the equal to a human?
What about the sheep, goats, and fawns these coyotes kill? Coyotes and bobcats cost ranchers a LOT of money each year from the goats and sheep they kill.
I don’t agree with what you’re saying but I do appreciate you being civil about expressing your thoughts.

Sorry, I’m not sure. It was a small mini-DV that could be held in your hand. I’m not sure of make or model.

Good info there. yes, it is very important to check your states regulations as night hunting is not legal in all States.

How do you like that 6 x 45? I built my first one this year with a Shilen barrel. My loads for it are 55 grain Noslers.
